Debby Burnett's Thorn, working cattle (ARIZONA) Ch Kismet's Thorn, HXAd, HIAs, HSAc, OTDscd, RDs (Ranch dog), HTDIs, HRDIIs
Cardigans were originally bred to work cattle. Nowadays at trials you most often see them working sheep or ducks, so the relatively rare sight of a Cardi working cattle is a special treat!
A HERDING TITLE PRIMER
AKC (American Kennel Club) Herding titles: The AKC has two pass/fail test titles: HT - Herding Tested PT - Pretrial Tested Trial titles: HS - Herding Started (followed by A,B or C for the style of course used and by d,s, or c for ducks, sheep or cattle) HI - Herding Intermediate (followed by A,B or C for the style of course used and by d,s, or c for ducks, sheep or cattle) HX - Herding Excellent (followed by A,B or C for the style of course used and by d,s, or c for ducks, sheep or cattle) HC (in front of the dog's name) - Herding Champion DC (in front of the dog's name) - Dual Champion (conformation and field sport)
In cases where you see a dog with simply "HX" or "HS" and no course or stock designation, this title was attained before the AKC rule change which added the courses and types of stock.
ASCA (Australian Shepherd Club of America) Titles
Started title earns an STD, open earns an OTD, and advanced earns an ATD. Small letters c,s, or d indicate cattle, sheep or ducks. Dogs earning an ATD in all stock classes earns the title Working Trial Champion (WTCH). A post advanced title is the PATD. Trials also offer classes for Novice handlers and Juniors.
AHBA (American Herding Breeds Association) Titles
AHBA has two pass/fail test titles: HCT (herding capability tested) JHD (Junior Herding Dog) Trial titles: HTDI, II, III (Herding Trial Dog) HRDI, II, III (Herding Ranch Dog) HCh (Herding Champion)
In all three venues, any title earned replaces any previous title, i.e., PT replaces HT, HRDIII replaces HRDII. |
